Pemberton takes on new NAV portfolio manager

The European private debt manager launched its NAV program last year with two leadership hires.

European private debt manager Pemberton Asset Management has hired Pavol Popp as a portfolio manager for its NAV financing business.

Pavol Popp

Popp was a managing director for 19 years at JPMorgan, where he had leadership roles including global co-head of financing solutions and head of EMEA structuring. His responsibilities at Pemberton include selection, structuring and risk management of investments.

Last year Pemberton launched its NAV financing strategy, which was spearheaded by group head and partner Thomas Doyle, who joined in January 2022 from 17Capital. The firm also hired Matthew Kirsch, managing director, that month. Kirsch joined from Apollo Global Management, and is responsible for origination, structuring and execution.

Pemberton’s NAV strategy integrates firmwide ESG policies in its investment process, according to the firm, taking into consideration ESG factors in evaluating borrower suitability. Pemberton says it applies a “two-step approach” of negative and positive screening when integrating ESG characteristics under the European Union’s article 8 in the investment process.
