Aequitas hires general counsel

The private debt firm appointed Scott Wood as their in-house lawyer.

Aequitas Capital, an alternative investment firm specializing in private debt, hired Scott Wood as general counsel.

Wood is responsible for the firm’s legal strategy and managing the day-to-day operations of the legal team. His duties will include providing counsel regarding employee relations, contracts, finance, corporate and transactional issues, and corporate governance matters.

“We operate a complex business in a heavily regulated industry,” said in a statement Aequitas chief executive Bob Jesenik. “[Wood] has the expertise to help ensure that Aequitas and our investors’ interests are vigorously served.”

Prior to Aequitas, Wood was general counsel for Oregon-based senior retirement home Holiday Retirement. Wood has also worked as general counsel for Golfsmith Golf & Tennis, a US and Canadian golf retailer.

Aequitas was established in 1993 as an investment firm that provides private equity and commercial finance to the mid-market, healthcare and energy sectors. The firm manages four debt funds and one private equity fund.
