AEW Europe appoints UK compliance chief

Former Nabarro real estate lawyer Philip Olmer has joined the firm’s London office.

AEW Europe appointed Philip Olmer as executive director and head of legal and compliance. He will be based in the firm’s London office.

AEW made the appointment in response to increased oversight from the FCA and the imposition of the AIFMD, which have expanded compliance concerns for European real estate funds.

“The business continues to meet the structuring and compliance challenges of the current market and we are delighted to have someone with Philip’s experience joining AEW in London,” said Russell Jewell, head of private equity funds at AEW Europe, in a statement.

Olmer has almost 30 years of experience as a lawyer in the commercial real estate sector. Prior to joining AEW Europe, Olmer served as a partner at real estate law firm Nabarro, working with international clients and building on the firm’s work with structured real estate investment transactions. Before his time at Nabarro, Olmer was a partner at Berwin Leighton Paisner and Olswang.
