Charlesbank hires COO

The Boston and New York-based firm recruited John Vander Vort (pic) to oversee its operations.

Charlesbank Capital Partners hired John Vander Vort as its chief operating officer.

Vander Vort joins the mid-market private equity firm from venture capital firm MPM Capital where has was COO and chief compliance officer.

Prior to MPM, Vander Vort directed the private markets group at investment management firm DuPont Capital Management and also co-founded venture capital firm BlueStream Ventures.

He takes over the COO position from Charlesbank co-founder Michael Thonis, who will continue as a managing director with the firm focusing on investor relations.

Charlesbank were unavailable for a request for comment at press time.

Vander Vort will join Charlesbank’s senior administrative team which includes chief financial officer Kevin Brown. Brown was promoted to CFO after having been senior vice president of finance and accounting at the firm for 15 years.

Charlesbank manages more than $2 billion and focuses on management-led buyouts and growth capital financings, typically investing $50 million to $150 million in companies with enterprise values of $100 million to $750 million.
