The law firm continued to grow its private equity practice with this latest partner addition.

Law firm Ropes & Gray has continued a planned expansion of its private equity group with the hire of former Bain Capital regional general counsel David Hutchins.

Hutchins, who will be based in the firm’s Boston office, previously spent nine years at Bain as general counsel of North America Private Investments.

While at Bain, Hutchins advised its private equity, ventures, life sciences, double impact and tech opportunities teams in North America. He also advised investors on mergers and acquisitions, fund formations and advised on day-to-day management of Bain’s portfolio companies.

Before Bain, Hutchins spent nearly three years at law firms Davis Polk & Wardwell and Kirkland & Ellis.

The law firm said its private equity practice has been experiencing tremendous growth. Since late December 2021, the firm has hired Jennifer Graff, a private funds partner in New York; Jennifer Harris, a partner in Los Angeles focused on special situations; private equity partners Angela Becker, Daniel Oates and Simon Saitowitz in London; and private equity partners Bianca Levin-Soler and Brandon Howald in Los Angeles.

The firm has also added Richard Kidd, an employment partner vetting employment issues in PE and M&A deals; Nicola Rosenstock, a counsel in the private funds group in New York; Matthew Holt, a counsel in Washington, DC focused on private funds; Peter Mugo and Kevin White, both private funds counsel in San Francisco; Evan Berman, a leveraged finance counsel in New York; Glen Chen, a private funds counsel in Los Angeles; and Andrea Conzatti, a private equity counsel in New York.

A previous version of this article referred to David Hutchins as Bain’s general counsel in the headline and on first reference. It has been updated to specify that he held a regional general counsel position.
