HarbourVest hires new CCO

The firm nabbed Angelo Gordon’s CCO following the departure earlier this year of its former compliance chief.

HarbourVest Partners has named Adam Freedman, former chief compliance officer at Angelo Gordon, as managing director and chief compliance officer.

Freedman is replacing Paula Drake, the firm’s general counsel who took on the CCO position following the departure of former CCO William Royer, who retired in January. With Freedman’s hiring, Drake will focus solely on her role as GC.

John Toomey, a managing director of HarbourVest Partners, said in a statement that Freedman will help the firm navigate increasingly complex regulations as the organization grows and enters new markets.

Most recently, Freedman was CCO and associate general counsel at Angelo Gordon for more than nine years. Prior to that role, he was an executive director in the legal and compliance division at Morgan Stanley.

Royer was named CCO in July 2019, at a time when the firm more than doubled its legal and compliance team.
