How to choose a CCO

Need to find a chief compliance officer? Here is some insight to help you hire, outsource or nominate one of the team.

When it comes to appointing a chief compliance officer, private equity firms have options: assign the role to an existing exec, hire from outside the firm or outsource to a specialist consultancy. Doug Cornelius, CCO of private fund firm Beacon Capital Partners and avid compliance blogger, guides you through the three options here.

One line that may ring true to CFOs who act as CCO: “The additional role and responsibility of a chief compliance officer may create a large burden on the affected executive.”

If you go down the outsourced route, this list of compliance consultants could be a useful starting point.

While we have you: we have just started gathering CFO survey data for a new Private Funds CFO report called Insights 2019 due to be published later this year. The survey should take between 10 and 15 minutes and covers a range of topics relevant to a CFO from fundraising to outsourcing. We’d be really grateful if you filled it in.
