KWM poaches Macfarlanes secondaries pro

The Hong Kong headquartered law firm’s new hire is in line with plans to boost its Middle East practice.

Hong-Kong-based King & Wood Mallesons has appointed a new partner, Gabriel Boghossian to its London office to further strengthen its corporate offering in Europe and the Middle East.

In the last few years, Boghossian has worked on some of the largest secondaries transactions in the market and is now developing a practice in general partner-led restructurings and direct secondaries, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Boghossian joins the firm from Macfarlanes, where he worked as a senior solicitor for over five years.

Stephen Kon, senior partner at the Europe in the Middle East (EUME) practice of King & Wood Mallesons, said, “We are delighted to welcome Gabriel to the firm. He is an outstanding lawyer who will make a significant contribution to the continued success of King & Wood Mallesons. His appointment is consistent with our commitment to the focused development of our EUME practice in areas of key strategic importance to the firm. I look forward to making more such announcements in due course.”

Boghossian said, “I am delighted to be joining King & Wood Mallesons; not only is King & Wood Mallesons a distinguished global law firm, it has tremendous depth in the private equity industry and a renowned secondaries team, both of which complement my practice very well. Having acted opposite the King & Wood Mallesons private equity team on a number of transactions over the years, I am very much looking forward to working with them.”

Gabriel’s appointment follows the firm’s recent round of promotions which saw six lawyers promoted to the partnership in Europe, the US and the Middle East, 20 promotions to partner in China, and the recruitment of two new partners, Peter Bullock and Anthony Wan in Hong Kong.

King & Wood Mallesons is a law firm headquartered in Hong Kong with 30 offices around the world and approximately 2,700 lawyers.
