Minority stake sales: The mid-market is now in play

Oak Hill Capital Partners is selling a minority stake to StonyRock, a recently launched platform investing in mid-market alternatives firms.

Yesterday New York-based mid-market firm Oak Hill Partners announced a strategic investment from StonyRock (press release here). StonyRock is a new platform backed by investment bank Jeffries to take minority stakes in PE firms. This looks like StonyRock’s first deal. Philippa Kent will have more details later today. In the meantime, here is a full briefing on the market for minority stake sales and how to go about selling a piece of your firm.

And here is a list of advisors with experience of these transactions.

These types of deal have been prevalent among large firms, but this is set to change with investors like StonyRock and Aberdeen Standard Investments entering the picture alongside seasoned investors in GPs, such as Wafra and RDV Group’s Ottawa Avenue Private Capital. Mid-market firms now have options for this type of financing.

Elsewhere, France-based firm Tickehau Capital has a new compliance head. Anne Maillé joins from real estate manager Primonial REIM (press release here).
