MJ Hudson gears up to open in Hong Kong

The alternatives-focused firm plans to plant its first flag in Asia.

MJ Hudson is preparing to open an office in Hong Kong office, according to partner Hiren Patel. The office will be the law firm’s first in Asia.

MJ Hudson focuses on alternative assets such as private equity, real estate and infrastructure and plans to focus on all asset classes in the new office.

“We consider Asia to be one of the key regions from where economic (and our own) growth is coming from and will continue to come from,” said Patel.

The firm already has a strong existing client base in Asia and a number of the firm’s European clients have offices in the region.

“Both of these groups have expressed a desire for us to have a local office,” Patel added.

Two partners and one associate will initially work in the office, although the firm expects to quickly increase the team’s size based on client needs, citing the importance of having locally-experienced lawyers. The office will open as soon as MJ Hudson’s local law society license is issued and then the firm will look toward Singapore, which is also on its “radar”, Patel said.
