NVCA names new chairman

Scott Sandell, a general partner at NEA, replaces Josh Green as the industry group’s chairman.

The National Venture Capital Association has named Scott Sandell, a general partner of New Enterprise Associates, as chairman of the board for 2014-2015.

Sandell replaces Josh Green, a general partner of Mohr Davidow Ventures, who as chairman led the NVCA through its search and selection of Bobby Franklin as president and chief executive officer. Sandell has been with NEA since 1996 and has led investments in businesses including Bloom Energy, Salesforce.com and Workday. At NEA, he has helped 21 technology companies in his portfolio complete public offerings.

“Under Bobby Franklin’s leadership and in partnership with the many venture capitalists who are deeply committed to advancing the NVCA’s mission, I believe we can bring a new generation of tools and resources to assist in our advocacy efforts and, looking forward, position NVCA as the voice of the broader startup ecosystem,” Sandell said in a statement.

Prior to NEA, Sandell held a number of positions at the Boston Consulting Group,C-ATS Software and Microsoft.

NVCA also added six new directors to its board: Alexis Borisy, partner at Third Rock Ventures; Jeff Crowe, managing partner at Norwest Venture Partners; Tim Curt, managing director at Warburg Pincus; John Drew, general partner at Technology Crossover Ventures; Mike Maples, managing partner at Floodgate Fund; and Ashton Newhall, general partner at Greenspring Associates.
