TA Associates names first COO

Jeffrey Hadden has been appointed chief operating officer and general counsel by TA Associates. He will be based in the firm’s Boston headquarters.

The newly created role will see Hadden oversee the firm’s legal, compliance, marketing and human resource functions, which includes recruiting, training and performance reviews.

He was previously with law firm Goodwin Procter, but has acted as outside general counsel to TA Associates since 1987.

“We established this position, and additional senior roles, to help further improve TA’s execution and support the long-term growth of our firm,” said Richard Tadler, chairman of TA Associates, in a statement.

TA Associates also named Kevin Masse as the firm’s chief portfolio officer, another newly created Boston-based position.

Masse will take charge of TA’s portfolio operations group and manage the use of third party consultants utilized across the portfolio. His responsibilities include the systematic development and tracking of 180-day plans and acquisition integration. Masse will also expand TA’s analytical tools to track portfolio performance and take the lead on investor reporting.

Masse was formerly an M&A partner at Deloitte. “Kevin has a long history of working with TA on investment and acquisition due diligence and brings deep experience and abilities into this highly visible role,” said Brian Conway, a managing director at TA, in a statement.
