Z Capital bolsters legal bench

The turnaround firm hired a deputy general counsel from a litigation specialist law firm.

Matthew Kane has joined Z Capital Partners as director and deputy general counsel.

Kane’s role as general counsel will see him advise the turnaround firm on dispute resolution, compliance and regulatory matters. He will also assist the investment team in due diligence, legal oversight of portfolio companies and bankruptcy proceedings.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to join a firm of Z Capital's caliber,” said in a statement Kane. “I am confident that the firm has a bright future and that the top-notch investment team will continue to capitalize on the many opportunities ahead.”

Kane was previously an associate with law firm Storch Amini & Munves PC, a litigation boutique in New York, where he advised on commercial disputes. He began his career as an associate with law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher in New York.

“Matt will be critical in ensuring the successful execution of our investment strategy, in addition to providing the necessary legal oversight of our portfolio companies and other matters,” said James Zenni, president and chief executive of Z Capital.

Z Capital specializes in investing in mid-market companies in need of turnaround, restructuring and bankruptcy, according to its website. In July, the firm was reportedly approaching its $500 million target for Z Capital Special Situations Fund II.
