ACG’s Gluck joins Duane Morris

Venable suffers deep losses in its New York office; Ogier brings its partnership count to 51; and more private fund lawyer moves.

Scott Gluck, a private equity lawyer who regularly represents industry interests on Capitol Hill through his work with the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), has joined Duane Morris. He was previously with Venable. Based in Washington DC, Gluck will continue to specialize in regulatory and compliance-related matters, including the Investment Advisers Act and other federal statutes. In his new role, Gluck will continue to serve as outside regulatory counsel for the ACG, a mid-market trade association that recently formed a taskforce of private equity CFOs and CCOs to speak with lawmakers about the impact of new regulation on private equity.

• Venable additionally suffered losses in its New York office. Thompson & Knight recruited from the team Michael Peskowitz (partner), Julia Geykhman (counsel), Lauren Scarantino (counsel), Michael Denci (associate) and Helen Quigley (associate) to build up its New York real estate and banking practice.

Venable, however, has added its own recruit: Friedemann Thomma, a venture capital tax attorney, who joins from DLA Piper. Based in San Francisco, Thomma helps Silicon Valley businesses and later stage companies optimize their tax structures and structure M&A deals in a tax efficient way.

Ogier named Bryon Rees, a funds lawyer based in Guernsey, as partner this month. Rees joined the offshore law firm in 2005 with a focus on investment fund, corporate, regulatory and finance related work. His appointment, which takes effect October 1, brings Ogier’s total partnership count to 51 (with seven in Guernsey).

Schulte Roth & Zabel added private debt lawyer Antonio Diaz-Albertini to its New York office. He was previously with Cahill Gordon & Reindel. His practice focuses on advising private equity funds, global investment banking firms, commercial banks and public and private corporations in finance transactions, including syndicated credit facilities, the issuance of secured and unsecured high-yield debt securities and the issuance of equity securities.
