AXA IM appoints finance chief

The French insurer’s investment management arm is reshaping its real assets teams in London and Paris as it strives to grow the business.

AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets has named Sébastien Herzog global chief financial officer, chief operating officer and corporate secretary.

Paris-based Herzog has been global head of internal audit at AXA IM since 2012, having originally joined the company in 1998 as a corporate finance manager.

Alongside his new positions, he will also become a member of the management board and will look after AXA IM – Real Assets’ performance across all aspects of the business.

“The importance of ensuring we have the best people in place is a real imperative as we continue to grow AXA IM – Real Assets across a multitude of fronts including increasing assets under management, expanding into new geographies and investing into new asset classes,” said Real Asset’s chief executive officer, Pierre Vaquier, in a press release.

During his time at AXA IM, Herzog led several external growth projects including the acquisition of Framlington, before moving to head the finance and business strategy function of AXA IM’s Investment Solutions business.

His promotion comes less than a week after the firm hired former BNP Paribas product head Bertrand Loubières as head of infrastructure finance.

AXA IM – Real Assets manages over €2.7 billion of alternative assets, with its infrastructure finance unit making investments of more than €2.5 billion in the past two years.
