Bain & Co appoints new China MD

Weiwen Han, previously a partner in the firm’s private equity practice, has been appointed to lead the firm’s operations in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.

Global business consultancy Bain & Company has named Weiwen Han as the firm’s managing director for its Greater China practice, according to a statement from the firm.

Han will assume the role of Michael Thorneman, who served as the MD of Bain Greater China for eight years. Thorneman will return to advising the firm’s private equity clients in China, as part of Bain’s ‘servant leader’ model where partners regularly rotate into leadership roles and then back to full-time client work.

In Han’s new role, he will be responsible for leading growth, operations, brand strategy, and talent for the firm’s offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong.

Han joined Bain in 2002 and has nearly 20 years of management consulting experience with mid- and large-sized global and Chinese companies. Before his appointment as MD, Han was a partner in the firm’s PE practice and a senior member of the digital, consumer products, and retail practices.

Han will take over his new role on 1 October and will be based in Shanghai.

Bain & Company is a consultancy to the private equity industry, and since 2006 has advised on half of all global buyout transactions valued at more than $500 million.
