HarbourVest splits its finance function

Rob MacGoey has joined as management company CFO in a move that will separate the finance function of the Boston-based firm's management company and funds.

HarbourVest Partners has announced the hiring of Rob MacGoey as chief financial officer of the firm’s management company in a move that splits the firm’s finance functions between MacGoey and current CFO Karin Lagerlund, who will handle the firm’s client and fund accounting, treasury and capital markets functions.

As management company CFO, MacGoey will be responsible for all accounting and financial operations of all corporate entities and related partnerships, in addition to maintaining internal control safeguards and coordinating all audit activities for the corporate entities

“To support our future growth, we made the decision to split the finance function between the funds, under Karin’s continued leadership, and the management company, under Rob’s leadership,” said John Toomey, managing director of HarbourVest Partners. “This change will allow us to continue to scale our business and serve the needs of our clients.”

Before joining HarbourVest, MacGoey served as chief accounting officer and controller of Apollo Global Management. Before that, he held several senior positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers’ financial services assurance and advisory practices.

“Demand for account and administrative support is growing and becoming more complex in nature,” said Lagerlund. “Splitting our finance functions will allow us to continue to devote the appropriate attention and focus to each side.”
