I Squared hires CCO

The New York fund manager hired William Campbell, a partner at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, as general counsel and chief compliance officer.

William “Bill” Campbell has left Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, where he was partner and co-chair of the law firm’s Energy and Infrastructure Practice Group, to join fund manager I Squared Capital (ISQ) in the newly-created position of general counsel and chief compliance officer, according to a statement.

In his new role, effective February 1, Campbell will manage legal and compliance issues related to ISQ’s operations and investments around the globe. He will also be responsible for managing the firm’s relationships with regulatory bodies in countries where ISQ and its investments operate, such as the US, the UK, China, India, and Singapore.

“[Campbell] brings more than 30 years of legal and management experience across a range of infrastructure sectors having worked with sponsors, investors and regulators internationally,” ISQ managing partner Sadek Wahba said in Thursday’s statement.

His experience in infrastructure includes projects in renewable and conventional electric energy generation, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and undersea cable transmission lines, transportation, petrochemical plants, and others.

Founded in 2012 by former executives of Morgan Stanley Infrastructure (MSI), I Squared specialises in infrastructure-related investments. Wahba, the firm’s managing partner, joined the firm in July 2013. He was previously chief investment officer and global head of MSI.

ISQ is in the process of raising its debut fund, ISQ Global Infrastructure Fund, with a target of $2 billion.
