KPMG names PE head in South Africa

Warren Watkins is stepping down from the role to explore other interests within the ‘Big Four’ accounting firm.

KPMG South Africa appointed Michael Rudnicki as head of private equity, following Warren Watkins' “decision to pursue other interests within the firm,” according to a KPMG statement.

Watkins held responsibility for KPMG’s private equity practice in South Africa since 2007, according to KPMG’s website.

Rudnicki is a partner in KPMG’s corporate tax practice and heads the group’s M&A tax and legal practice in South Africa. His range of clients include banks, private equity houses and private equity-backed portfolio companies.

He also helps GPs with their local and offshore fund structuring, buy and sell side due diligence and offers opinions on gearing levels and interest deduction tax strategies.

“I am delighted to be appointed head of KPMG’s private equity business in South Africa,” Rudnicki said in the statement. “I hope that my experience in providing tax advice coupled with my technical expertise will be instrumental in helping the firm deliver the full potential from our business.”
