Latham & Watkins promotes PE lawyers

A total 18 private equity lawyers are affected, with 10 being elected to the partnership.

Latham & Watkins has promoted 18 private equity lawyers across its US and European offices.

In total, 10 lawyers were appointed to the partnership, six in the US, including Chicago-based Christopher Drewry, Jason Morelli and Jonathan Solomon, and four in Europe including Ekin Akar and Deborah Kirk, who are based in London.

Eight private equity associates have also been promoted to counsel.

Latham & Watkins elected a total 27 associates to the partnership, with another 28 promoted to counsel. The promotions are effective January 1, 2017.

The news follows the announcement last week that the firm has opened an office in Seoul. The opening brings its office count in Asia to six; it already has operations in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo.

The Seoul team focuses on private equity, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged finance, debt and equity capital markets, and international arbitration practices.

Joseph Bevash, a partner in the Hong Kong and Singapore offices will serve as the office managing partner in Seoul while continuing his post as office managing partner in Tokyo.
