Lawyers on the move: November

Private equity lawyers across the globe have moved firms over the past month. Here’s a round-up of some notable movers and shakers.

In the US, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has hired Aly El Hamamsy as partner in its corporate practice in New York. He will help develop the firm’s US private equity practice. Hamamsy joins the firm from Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft, where he focused on international corporate matters.

Angelo Ciavarella joined Katten Muchin Rosenman as a tax partner in its New York office. He focuses on structuring domestic and cross-border corporate and private equity transactions. Ciavarella joins the firm from Reed Smith, and has also represented clients in connection with real estate transactions.

In Europe, mergers and acquisitions lawyers Rob Day and Andrew Wingfield have joined Proskauer’s London office. Day focuses on public and private mergers and acquisitions and private equity, while Wingfield works primarily with private equity sponsors, fund and financial institutions

Michael Bernhardt has joined Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy as a partner in the firm’s Frankfurt office. He specializes in corporate M&A and private equity. He regularly advises on transactions including public takeovers, public-to-privates, leveraged buyouts and management-led buyouts. He joins the firm from Allen & Overy.

In Asia-Pacific, Hogan Lovells bolstered its Perth office with the hire of M&A and private equity partner Matthew Johnson. He joins the firm from Clayton Utz. Alongside private equity, he focuses on capital markets, corporate advisory, and energy and resources.

Jeremy Cunningham has been hired as partner in Reynolds Porter Chamberlain’s Hong Kong office. He focuses on M&A and private equity transactions, particularly for clients in the media, advertising and insurance industries. He joins the firm from Mayer Brown JSM.

Ropes & Gray has promoted private funds group associate Vincent Ip to partner. He advises clients, which include Bain Capital, FountainVest Partners, and RRJ Capital, on all aspects of their business. He has been with the firm since 2006.
