Morgan, Lewis & Bockius has poached a 13-strong corporate team from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, including eight private equity lawyers.
Leading the move is Edwin Luk, a well-known private equity transaction lawyer in Hong Kong.
The other private equity lawyers include Maurice Hoo, a partner who advises private funds clients and family offices, June Chan, Connie Cheung, Keith Cheung, Billy Wong, Yang Zeng and Ning Zhang, a partner who will be based in Beijing. Zhang was previously counsel at O’Melveny & Myers in Beijing.
Hong Kong Law Society rules dictate that Luk and his team must establish their own firm under the name Luk & Partners. After this, Morgan Lewis can apply to become a registered foreign law firm in Hong Kong and seek to associate with new firm.
