Bain Capital kick-starts search for European GC

Private equity firm Bain Capital, which manages roughly $64 billion in assets, began the search for a new European general counsel amid increased deal activity in the continent, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Recent deals this year include the $1.1 billion takeover of Irish education services provider SkillSoft alongside Advent International and Berkshire Partners; and the €565 million sale of Italian Business software group TeamSystem to HgCapital.

In searching for a new GC, Bain will target London’s magic circle law firms, said the source. The search is being headed by Bain managing partner and general counsel Sean Doherty.

Doherty, who joined Bain in 2005, previously worked as a private equity lawyer at Boston-based law firm Ropes & Gray.
