World Cup fever

“It’s over… Thank God it’s over.”

No, not the words of a Brazilian football fan at the end of the semi-final against Germany, grateful that the humiliating six-goal deficit wasn’t going to get any worse.

It was, in fact, the words of a jubilant CFO, who confided to pfm that the 32 day tournament – which featured some key matches during normal business hours – had led to a number of sick days being taken by staff at the firm. Doesn’t take a detective to put two and two together here.

What we did wonder, though, is whether all this work-dodging had created a huge backlog of work for the firm. The CFO’s response? “Well, not really. Because no one else was working during those matches either.”
