Spangler moves to Dechert

The industry bigwig has defected to the rival firm after just over two years as Sidley Austin’s investment funds practice leader.

 Just over two years after joining Sidley Austin as partner and investment funds practice leader, private equity law veteran Tim Spangler has departed for Dechert. He will be based in the Orange County office.

Spangler joins as a partner in the financial services practice group. He advises clients on the structuring and formation of, and investment in, international and domestic private investment funds, including hedge funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, venture capital funds and fund-of-funds.

Prior to joining Sidley Austin in late 2013, Spangler served for more than seven years as partner and chair of the investment funds group at Kaye Scholer. Earlier in his career, he spent time at Berwin Leighton Paisner, Latham & Watkins and Clifford Chance, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Spangler is known throughout the industry for his work as an author and editor of publications on private investment funds and as an adjunct faculty member and Director of Research of the Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy at the University of California Los Angeles.
