Stella Point poaches CFO from Castle Harlan

Howard Weiss, former senior VP and CFO at Castle Harlan, has joined Stella Point, a mid-market private equity firm co-founded by Justin Wender, Castle Harlan’s president from 2006-2010.

New York based-Stella Point Capital has appointed Howard Weiss chief financial officer, according to a statement from the firm on Tuesday. Weiss, former senior vice president and chief financial officer at Castle Harlan, joined Stella Point on July 5, a person familiar with the matter said.

Stella Point invests in mid-market companies with an enterprise value of between $50 million and $500 million, targeting the industrial, consumer, and business services sectors, primarily in North America.

Weiss and Stella Point managing partner Justin Wender, who co-founded the firm in 2012, worked together for many years at Castle Harlan, also a New York-based private equity firm; Weiss spent more than 25 years there, and Wender 17. Wender left Castle Harlan in 2010, four years after the firm's founding partners John Castle and Leonard Harlan appointed him president as part of a succession planning effort. Castle Harlan ceased fundraising for its sixth investment vehicle last summer, Private Equity International reported in July.
