Thoma Bravo names James head of IR

Jennifer James, an industry veteran and frequent speaker at PEI events, has left Sofinnova Ventures.

Thoma Bravo hired Jennifer James, who has a career spanning two decades in the industry, to oversee its investor relations and marketing strategy.

James is a frequent speaker at events hosted by parent publisher PEI, including most recently the 2015 PEI Investor Relations Forum, where she discussed portfolio crisis management and managing cycle downturns.

She was previously head of IR at venture capital firm Sofinnova Ventures, where she led the firm's fundraising efforts for SVP IX ($500 million) and SVP VIII ($440 million), and before that, she served as director of marketing at rival San Francisco venture capital firm Alta Partners.

In her new role, James will manage Thoma Bravo’s existing LP relationships, introduce new investors to the firm and oversee its industry communications programs, according to a firm statement. Last May, Thoma Bravo closed its $3.65 billion Fund XI in roughly four months, holding a “one and done” close.

“Private equity has become an increasingly competitive and complex environment, both in terms of fundraising and putting our investment dollars to work,” said in the statement Thoma Bravo managing partner Orlando Bravo. “[James] brings a wealth of experience that will be vital to communicating with our current and future limited partner investors, particularly as we raise future funds that expand our already excellent investor base.”

Thoma Bravo has offices in Chicago and San Francisco and manages around $8.5 billion in private equity commitments.
