Advent hires former Dunkin’ Donuts’ exec

Will Kussell, who worked as president at the restaurant chain, will help Advent identify investment opportunities.

Advent International continues its hiring spree with the addition of Will Kussell, the former president of Dunkin' Donuts, who has joined the firm as an operating partner to advise on opportunities in restaurants, health and wellness, footwear and franchisors.

Most recently, Kussell served as president and chief brand officer of Dunkin’ Donuts Worldwide. In this role, Kussell oversaw Dunkin’ Donuts’ domestic and international operations, marketing, franchising and new business initiatives. Kussell launched the “America Runs on Dunkin” marketing campaign.

Advent has a roster of more than 70 business leaders from a range of sectors working as operating partners to source investment opportunities, assist with the due diligence process and advise on the strategic and operational development of portfolio companies.

Recent additions in 2010 include Christian Grenier and Luciano Cattani. Grenier, who is CEO of BioVision, Europe’s largest life science forum, joined Advent last month to advise the firm on investment opportunities across the healthcare and specialty chemicals sectors.

Cattani, who also joined Advent last month, advises on global investment opportunities in the healthcare sector with a specific focus on medical technology and devices. Cattani works as executive vice president in international public affairs of the medical devices company, Stryker Corp., from which he is due to retire in June 2010. 

Additionally, former Carlyle executive Robert Brown joined Advent as a managing director and global head of limited partner services. He is responsible for Advent’s fundraising and investor relations activities worldwide. Prior to Advent, Brown was a managing director at The Carlyle Group focusing on North American fundraising and investor relations. 

Advent, which was one of the nominees for European mid-market firm of the year in the Private Equity International 2009 awards, has invested in more than 50 buyout and private equity transactions in the US and Canada in sectors such as financial services, industrial, retail and healthcare. Its North American team is investing its sixth buyout fund, GPE VI, which totals $10.4 billion.
