Freshfields lawyer appointed Arclight COO

Industry lawyer Ted Burke (pic) is leaving Freshfields to take on two management roles at Boston-based Arclight Capital Partners

Arclight Capital Partners hired Ted Burke as chief operating officer and general counsel.

Burke joins the private equity firm from law firm Freshfields where he was based in London for almost eight years.

He will leave Freshfields in early 2014 (ahead of his mandate as global managing partner ending in 2015) to take on the role with Arclight, a longstanding client from his Boston hometown.

“It's a rare opportunity that’s come a little earlier than originally planned, but hard to pass up,” said Burke in an emailed statement.

Arclight, an energy-focused investment firm formed in 2001 by co-founders Daniel Revers and Robb Turner, was not immediately available for comment. The firm manages more than $10 billion across five funds.

Burke’s replacement at Freshfields is London competition partner David Aitman.

“Ted leaves the firm in excellent shape, yet these are jobs that are never done as new challenges and opportunities are constantly arising,” said Aitman.
