The issues of diversity and inclusion have become a mainstream discussion point for private equity firms. Investor pressure combined with an understanding that diverse investment teams should achieve better returns have pushed GPs to think hard about how they can promote a more diverse workforce.

A lack of diversity among qualified candidates is often cited as an obstacle to achieving this goal, but there are things GPs can do to overcome this challenge, says Will Moynahan, a partner with executive search firm Heidrick and Struggles who leads the firm’s private equity practice in Europe.

In this 11-minute podcast, Moynahan discusses the ways in which firms can look beyond the traditional candidate pools to hire senior investment professionals with diversity of ethnicity, gender and background.
