Orrick strengthens PE practice in China

Law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has recruited Jeffrey Sun Jie as a partner in its Shanghai office.

Sun’s practice focuses on private equity investments, cross-border M&A, capital market and foreign direct investment financing transactions.

According to an Orrick statement, Sun has more than a decade of experience in representing Chinese and multinational companies from multiple industries, including consumer and retail, financial services, life sciences, renewable energy and technology.

Prior to Orrick, Sun worked as a counsel in the Shanghai office of Latham & Watkins and was a member of the corporate department. Previously, he spent five years working at Pu Dong Law Office and was a partner there from 2004.

He holds a Chinese Lawyer’s Qualification Certificate and is admitted to the New York Bar.

In April last year, Orrick hired Maurice Hoo as partner and co-head of its global private equity practice. Based in Hong Kong, Hoo joined the firm from US law firm Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, where he was a partner and led the Chinese private equity practice. 

Orrick’s Greater China team has more than 90 legal professionals in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai. In all, Orrick employs over 1,100 lawyers in 23 offices in North America, Europe and Asia.
