A change at the top for IPEV

Emile Van der Burg has succeeded BNP Paribas Fortis’ Herman Daems to become chairman of the International Private Equity and Venture Capital Valuation (IPEV).

IPEV’s mission is to provide uniform, globally acceptable and best practice guidance for both private equity and venture capital valuation and reporting. It monitors the market practice of these guidelines and offers advice on their application to all stakeholders in the private equity industry.

Van der Burg has worked in the private equity industry since 1994. He’s a senior advisor to fund of funds group DB Private Equity and sits on the board of Euronext-listed private equity firm GIMV.

A former chairman of the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EVCA) he received unanimous support from the IPEV board in replacing Daems, who had chaired the board since its 2005 inception.

Daems, who was in his second and final term, was among a number of IPEV board members to recently pass their responsibilities over to incoming appointees including Apax Partners’ Stephen Kempen and Grant Thornton’s Sylvain Quagliaroli.

Anthony Cecil (KPMG), Hervé Claquin (Abénex Capital) and Monique Saulnier (Sofinnova Partners) were among those to step down from the board after completing their second and final term. They will remain active within IPEV via involvement with IPEV board’s new funding arm, the IPEV Association.

The IPEV Association aims to secure funding and promote the work of the board, as well as the application of its guidelines.

The association will discuss issues relating to the board’s guidelines on a yearly basis as the board works to extend its influence in valuation and reporting practices across the globe.
