Z Capital names COO

The turnaround firm promoted internal talent to begin overseeing its operations.

Z Capital Partners named William Monagle, Jr. as chief operating officer. Mongale, Jr. moves up from his current role of managing director in the firm’s investment/operational Team, where he has been since November 2012.

Z Capital was not available to comment on whom Monagle Jr. will be replacing or if this is a new role for the firm.

Prior to joining Z Capital, Monagle Jr. was a partner and senior strategist with investment consulting firm NEPC. While at NEPC he had responsibility for the firm's private markets research, manager search, due diligence activities and performance monitoring efforts.

Monagle Jr. was also a member of NEPC’s Partners Research Committee, Alternative Due Diligence Committee and the Real Assets-Infrastructure practice.

Before NEPC, Monagle Jr. was the managing director of private equity research at investment consultant Rogerscasey. While at Rogerscasey, Monagle Jr. developed private equity investment structures for the firm's clients and was responsible for the firm's monitoring of approximately 150 private equity funds.

Monagle also authored the Rogerscasey's quarterly private equity market reviews and developed the firm's private equity educational presentation.

“Bill is a seasoned operations professional and I have the utmost confidence he will transition seamlessly to our executive leadership team while continuing to successfully execute on our distressed for control private equity strategy,” said James Zenni, president and chief executive of Z Capital, in a statement.

Z Capital specializes in investing in mid-market companies in need of turnaround, restructuring and bankruptcy, according to its website. In July, Dow Jones reported that the firm was approaching its $500 million target for Z Capital Special Situations Fund II.
