Apax adds in-house counsel

Apax Partners has hired Simon Cresswell as senior in-house counsel to the principle investing area (PIA), according to reports.


Apax did not immediately return a request for comment.

Cresswell, who was a senior counsel with Goldman Sachs, is the latest in a number of private equity firms to bring on in-house lawyers.

Last month, Bain Capital began the search for a new European general counsel amid increased deal activity in Europe.

In searching for a new GC, Bain will target London’s magic circle law firms, said a source close to the matter. The search is being headed by Bain managing partner and general counsel Sean Doherty.

In 2007, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts hired David Sorkin, a Simpson Thacher & Bartlett corporate partner as its first in-house general counsel. Sorkin joined Simpson Thacher in 1985. He worked on KKR’s famed RJR Nabisco deal and on the landmark TXU buyout.
