KPMG names head of PE practice

KPMG has named Marc Moyers as the national sector leader for its US private equity group, focusing on advisory in mergers and acquisitions, exit strategies, portfolio company operations and joint ventures.

Moyers succeeds Shawn Hessing as head of KPMG’s audit, tax and advisory groups which advise private equity firms. Hessing is retiring from the firm, confirmed a KPMG spokesperson.

“Private equity firms are looking to work with advisors who can help them navigate the kinds of issues that Marc and his team clearly and deeply understand – from dealing with new regulation and a competitive investment environment to capturing portfolio company efficiencies,” said Rob Arning, vice chairman of market development, in a statement.

Moyers previously served as KPMG's office managing partner from 2000-2008. Moyers joined KPMG in 1977 and was admitted to the partnership in 1986.Private equity audit and taxation services are playing a bigger role in KPMG’s business. KPMG told PEM earlier this year that the firm witnessed a 20 percent rise in revenues from its private equity practice in the year to 30 September.

Some notable transactions the firm has played part in include Kohlberg Kravis Roberts’ January 2010 acquisition of Pets at Home, a UK retail chain, for £955 million (€1.1 billion; $1.5 billion) from private equity firm Bridgepoint; and the £2 billion sale of RBS’s WorldPay business to Advent International and Bain Capital last August.
