CFO no-call list

The life of a chief financial officer is not for everyone. Take any random private fund CFO’s Outlook calendar, and you’ll see a day stuffed full of appointments and miscellaneous tasks, sometimes broken down into 15-minute blocks. A big ask for those of us who struggle with deadlines (ahem).

That’s why we here at pfm always like to ask our time-strapped CFO readers what we can do to help.

During a recent lunch, one had a rather blunt answer to that question: “Too often there’s people cold-calling my office offering some service or product that’s not even relevant to my business.”

He told us that he has an assistant who spends hours a week fielding calls – usually because salesman had found his details on their website and decided to aim high with their pitch, even if it was totally inappropriate. “Maybe your publication could tell them to target their pitches better, or see that a service they have could actually be used in the private equity field or something similar.”

Well sir, wish granted. Although we did point out that none of the lovely providers who read pfm would ever do anything like that…
