Brien Smith, managing director and chief operating officer of Neuberger Berman’s Private Equity Division, speaks with senior editor Isobel Markham about what he sees as the key regulatory issues facing US private equity in the near term, including anti-money laundering, know-your-client rules and ESG regulations.

Smith says certain regulatory trends initiating out of the EU are really global trends, and that global firms need to “think globally” about best practices and regulations in order to clearly comprehend and prepare for future regulatory changes in the US and elsewhere.
