Fees and expenses are always a hot topic of debate in private funds. The Securities and Exchange Commission’s involvement, what funds can charge and how they charge it has changed significantly – and is still changing.

“The regulator’s involvement gave LPs the upper hand on the fees and expenses battlefield,” says Tom Angell, partner at Withum. “But I think that’s kind of pushed back [towards GPs] because, where else are you getting returns?”
